How do you dress for work?
It is always difficult to know what the dress code is like in a new workplace. The first thing you can think of is how the people who interviewed you were dressed. How dressed up or casual were they? If the interview was at the workplace, did you perhaps see any other employees there? If so, you can try to imitate the style they went with. In my opinion, it is better to be a little too casually dressed on the first day than too dressed up. What I think of as slightly casual is a slightly large white shirt (a tight-fitting white shirt is often perceived as a dress shirt and it becomes a bit more formal), and high waisted dress pants that you can tuck the shirt into. On the first day, I would choose flat shoes, type loafers or low boots. With an outfit made up of a white shirt and black suit trousers, you will slip into most office jobs. When you are at work on the first day, it is good to try and note how different people are dressed. Is there a big difference in how people in different positions dress? Who in the workplace do you want to associate yourself with and how did they dress? When you have a clear picture of the dress code in the workplace, it is easier to develop and build your style based on who you want to be in the environment you are in.
What do you wear to work dinners?
There is a difference between whether you are going to dinner with colleagues or whether you are going to dinner with clients from work. If it is dinner with colleagues, you are quite free. The most important thing is to avoid garments that show a lot of skin, such as very short skirts, deep necklines on the top or singlet. I think it's fine to go with what you would normally go with for the type of restaurant you're going to. If it is dinner with clients, it is different. It may be important to appear professional and proper, but you should not out-dress the client. If you know the people you are dining with and know how they tend to dress, I would put myself on the same level as them or dress up a bit more. A blouse and blazer or white shirt and a nice sweater over it are two options I consider safe choices. Dress the outfit up or down with accessories such as jewellery, silk scarves and high heels or flats.
What do you wear to a Christmas party at work?
The Christmas party at work comes quickly every year, and of course the question is always the same. What to wear? It depends on the workplace and the type of Christmas party in question when it comes to how dressed up you should be. You want to stand out, but it's good to hear from colleagues what they think about wearing so you don't stand out too much. My tactic is often a simple plain dress or top and skirt set and then dress it up with accessories. Rings, bracelets, jewellery and earrings with diamonds or pearls. Bag and shoes to match. My favorite is a bag and shoes in patent leather, which has a lacquer/gloss finish. A tip is to wear high heels from the start and bring a pair of nice loafers or ballerina shoes that you can change into later in the evening.
How to dress professionally? And how to style the work outfit?
What makes an outfit appear professional? The most important thing is that the clothes fit correctly. Everything must be the right size and fit your body as it should. A white shirt is the best and easiest starting point when putting together a professional outfit. With a white shirt underneath, you can put on a waistcoat, blazer, cardigan or v-neck sweater over it, and it will appear nice and proper. When it comes to trousers or skirts, it is important that they match the top. If you have a tight-fitting top, straight-cut suit trousers or a long skirt with pockets go well with it. Now that the skirt has pockets, it appears somewhat more casual and suitable for work. If you have a larger top, I would choose a bottom that is high in the waist, so you can tuck the top in and highlight your waist. A wide top that goes straight down can appear a bit casual. If you want to wear a shorter skirt that ends above the knees, I would style it with tights and boots that go up to the knees. By choosing boots that go up to the knees, you avoid showing too much of your legs.
